Week 8 Thingies 18 & 19

Zoho.....I'm nonplussed......a web based wordprocessor. A big emaily thing.....the potential for these "Thingies" is beginning to outvault the meagre mental gymnastics my mind is able to accomplish...what say ye all?

LibraryThing.....Ok...another way to show what we like...could be very handy for directing students to texts

ICT Guy

I have been listening to Darrel's podcasts...lots of food for thought here.......

Voicethread

Now this is interesting...........

Week 7 Thingy 16

Wikis...yes I've been using this one during an Adobe Connect training course.

I like them...a little bit more flexible than a dedicated LMS.

Good when constructing learning objects such as pathfinders.

Passwords...accounts.....

Anyone have anythoughts on passwords and accounts......I have a proliferation of new ones over the past few weeks......????

Week 6 Thingies 13, 14 & 15

I think I've skirted these already. However, Thingy 15 is very interesting. Sort of in the same vein as the GPL for open source software.
I never realised so much work has been carried out in this area. The "Disney" movie is good.

Week 4 Thingies 8 & 9, Week 5 Thingies 10, 11 & 12

OK.....my thirteen year olds have told me this "blog needs help." We went to a spot called createblog.com...I'll try and drag up the link. I was persuaded to use a new template which proceeded (much to their merriment) to wreck everything. Hey, I though I was Oh so smart knowing some html......these girls write it to communicate with each other. Parents...if ever you thought MySpace was a waste just watch the kids chop the templates up...I was gobsmacked.

Anyway...thingies 8 & 9.....yep the feeds are good.....I'm setting up a feed in my "Adobe Connect" Vacant / offline room.......some useful ideas in there...however...most of my adult learners go home to their other "lives" ....ie family.....TV....bills mortgages and don't have time for this sort of stuff.

The delicious bit.....well....as someone who regularly exports his faves onto a memory stick it's a welcome addition.....however...I exported them all up and will have a devil's time ordering them. The cloud style is good...mine just looks extremely nebulous.....

Rollyour own....yes.....good...just don't have time to pop sites into it.....but.....good for kids doing homework if you had a bunch of sites. However with scaffolding couldn't you direct them to your deli.cio.us page?

Week 4 Thingy #9

Righto....searching through Blogs and all things RSS.  Well the easiest reader was the google one...however....sharing articles so they update on your blog is a bit time consuming....therefore it's quite important to choose feeds relevant to you...Ok..I chose soccer but I guess we should be looking at education type feeds.

Technorati ... hmmm ..... Syndic8 .... a lot of broken and pending approval feeds here.

I find picking the feeds off "favorite" websites works best....at the moment!!!!

You're so 5 minutes ago Dad!!!

I have been reliably informed by my thirteen year old girls that Flickr is oh so yesterday....everyone uses Photobucket.....hmmm

Sunday, April 6, 2008

Ooops....getting ahead of me....

I've been wondering about these RSS feeds for a long time........I've just managed to put one up for the CLI......now there's a possibility...if you set up a feeder page for your class they could go to the feeds and receive news about "your / their" "area" without having to trawl the net.....

......hmmmm...watch this space.....

Week 3 Thingy's 6 & 7

Ok.....Flickr Mashups etc etc....nice....don't know when I'll employ them though.

Been a bit of a "technology overload" this week...in the nicest sense....lets see...found the "ICT Guy" podcast on iTunes.....really good. Adobe Connect...lots of possibilities there. I also attended a NSWDET Centre for Learning Innovation (CLI) workshop. now there's a bunch of people who really live and breathe this stuff and always have or go looking for the answers with you.

The revamped TALE website is really cool too. So check out http://cliwww.det.nsw.edu.au/cli/index.shtm

Vessel Rolled to approx 33 degrees

A friend took this.....yep..note the horizon and the vertical.....incidentally...I was involved in the building of this ship...about 18 years ago...wow...time flies!!!!

Week 3 Thingy 5

Hmmm...how are we all going with the Flickr thingy??? Does anyone know how, by using the slideshow element, you import your images from Flickr?

Danger...brick wall looming.... :-(

Week 2 Thingy 3 & 4

Ok....the blogging bit. I wondered what all the fuss was about. Yes, seems there is potential here. Especially for "team" who require to discuss projects, perhaps?

Registering my blog spot.....just awaiting "the powers" to reply!!!

Week 1 Thingy 2

Yep, a learning contract...good idea.....did I sign it...??? Mentally....yes.....otherwise it will just become another piece of paper on my desk!!!

Week 1 Thingy 1

Despite being a teacher you sometimes forget the "7 and a half habits" or however they're described...they exist in many guises, I'm sure!!!
For me...it has to be number 4....yes...have confidence in yourself as a competent effective learner. I have moments of joy (?) when I discover I have "learned" something....at other times I find it hard to put pen to paper :-(

I'm sure there must be all sorts of smileys and things in here but I haven't found them yet!!!

But here are the "habits"

7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Lifelong Learners

Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
Habit 2: Accept responsibility for your own learning
Habit 3: View problems as challenges
Habit 4: Have confidence in yourself as a competent, effective learner
Habit 5: Create your own learning toolbox
Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage
Habit 7: Teach/mentor others
Habit 7 ½: Play

First serve.....

Well...very exciting...been a while since I have set something up on the internet....quite an easy set up process don't you think?
